Access to Nutrition Initiative (ATNI) signs MoU with Food Systems for the Future Institute (FSFI)

18 April 2024

Access to Nutrition Initiative (ATNI) today announced the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU") with Food Systems for the Future Institute (FSFI).

The MoU provides the foundation to strengthen existing corporate accountability initiatives and to ensure that engagement between both organizations helps accelerate nutrition-related efforts of the private sector and investors.

Under the terms of the MoU, ATNI and FSFI commit to a collaborative effort aimed at increasing impact investing in nutrition across diverse global markets. This collaboration will be underpinned by trust, with both organizations relying on each other for critical feedback and review of their respective outputs. They will also help in disseminating relevant outputs related to nutrition impact measurement and management, amplifying the reach and effectiveness of their initiatives.

Furthermore, FSFI and ATNI will engage as critical thought partners in global fora, contributing expertise and insights to advance common goals especially around unlocking finance for nutritious foods. Additionally, they will explore opportunities for co-fundraising, leveraging resources for shared objectives, thus maximizing their collective impact.

The MoU will be reviewed every two years for adjustments.

“More than ever, we need to work together to ensure that markets are transformed for sustainable nutrition. I’m excited to partner with FSFI, align on metrics and targets, and speak with one voice when engaging with agri-food companies as well as investors.”

— Greg S Garrett, Executive Director Access to Nutrition Initiative

“Collaboration is key to transforming markets for sustainable nutrition. We are thrilled to continue working with ATNI, aligning on metrics, and collectively advocating for impactful change within the agri-food sector and investment landscape. Together, we will amplify our voices and drive meaningful progress towards a more nourished world.”

— Ertharin Cousin, CEO and Founder Food Systems for the Future Institute

About Access to Nutrition Initiative

ATNI is a global non-profit founded in 2013 that exists for the sole purpose of transforming markets for nutrition. ATNI believes the private sector has an important role to play in fighting malnutrition. ATNI’s mission is to improve (financial) market performance by challenging key actors in the food system – notably industry and investors – to accelerate access to affordable, sustainable, and nutritious food for all, especially for society’s most vulnerable. ATNI does this through the development and publication of accountability tools and strategies in close collaboration with industry, investors, policymakers, consumers organizations and other nutrition stakeholders.

About Food Systems for the Future Institute

FSFI is a U.S. 501 (c)(3) organization led by Ambassador Ertharin Cousin. Through deep sector expertise, a network of advisors, and institutional partnerships, they address malnutrition with an economically sustainable climate lens. The FSF Institute is dedicated to

delivering food as health, creating an ecosystem that ensures equitable access to affordable, nutritious food, particularly in historically underserved communities. The FSF Institute maintains one mission, with two operating teams - United States and Africa. Both teams operationalize the shared theory of change that by creating the necessary ecosystem, while identifying and partnering with too often overlooked and underfunded talented teams across the food system, they can deliver nutrition impact through economically sustainable operations.
